Elle Talks Liquid Lips

7/8/2017

Can we talk about liquid lipstick?

If you are a makeup junkie, or simply looking for a lippie that will stay all day - hi, let's chat. I have searched high and low. I have had smudged, smeared, and crumbly lips. I have ordered online and looked in drugstores. This is what I have learned...

First of all a lipstick will not stay all day unless it is applied to healthy lips. You can buy yummy lip exfoliators, or you can make your own easily by mixing honey and sugar. You can also gently brush the dead cells off your lips with a soft toothbrush. When you have achieved soft, silky lips, you are then ready to apply your color. Most times I will line my lips with a pencil before I apply liquid lipstick, but this step is not necessary. First apply a very thin layer. Let this dry for 1-2 minutes and then reapply. Do not touch or rub lips together until it feels mostly dry.

My absolute favorite long lasting lip of choice is Enduring Lip Color by LimeLight by Alcone. You can order yours here!

Beard Care Tips with Leo

7/8/2017

As a newfound beard wearer, I have been obsessing recently with my new face sweater. Because I'm a nice fella, I figured I would share a few tips to make your beard the best it can be. Here are my top tips for your best beard:

  1. Shampoo: Beards are made up of hair after all, therefore we should treat them as we would the hair on the top (or sides) of our hair. Using a professional shampoo, or best case scenario beard wash, will keep the beard itch at bay along with taming stray hairs. Massaging the skin also increases blood flow which has been linked to increased hair growth.
  2. Condition: Conditioning the hair will impart moisture and make the beard supple and manageable. It will also replace the oils that are stripped through washing.
  3. Blow dry: This step may not be requisite for every beard wearer, but it bares mentioning. Blow drying your beard will significantly decrease the beard itch while also making the beard lay in a desirable manner. A standard grooming brush is acceptable for the blow out, and you get bonus points for using a round brush!
  4. Beard products: Depending on the length of your beard, different products may be more suitable. There are balms and creams and oils galore, but the same basic purpose for a product is hydration and control. Selecting a product that will hydrate the hair and skin is key, and for longer beards, a balm may offer much needed control. Additionally, if you are a 'stache wearer, a wax product can tame and shape the hairs near the corner of your mouth.

Stay tuned for the next blog, where I will go more in depth into product selection, as well as what combs and brushes to use. Please give this a share and of course, hit me up for your beard maintenance needs.

What are some of your personal beard tips?

Let's Talk About Pastel Hair

7/8/2017

Calling all mermaids and hipsters alike!

Pastels and brights seem to be all the fuss in this area as of late: so let's talk about the process. To have a true pastel color put in your hair, it has to be lightened to the color of the inside of a banana peel. Not an easy feat if your hair is dark! So, it may take a few sessions to get your base blonde light enough to reach your desired candy color dream hair. It is possible with patience and dedication. Once you have achieved the degree of lightness that is appropriate for your color of choice, then the fun begins. And viola! You are a mermaid. Right?

Wait! It's not over.

We will then suggest a custom mixed conditioner with your desired pigments, mixed by hand. Other suggestions include not washing every day, and using cold water when rinsing. So basically having pastel color is like getting married; it's only going to be as successful as your commitment! That said, pastel pinks and lavenders are my favorite to make. So if you are ready, let's make a date!
